01 — Our story

From Solid Foundations

Major Housing was founded by two brothers back in 2011, in response to a serious housing crisis in England.

United by strong values of equality, social justice and service to humanity, Aman and Sandeep Singh were driven by the shared belief that everyone deserves to have access to affordable, high-quality housing, no matter their background or circumstances.

A Sense Of Responsibility

More importantly, with over 20 years’ experience in providing temporary accommodation to homeless households already, they knew they were well-placed to help make this happen.

And so, with unwavering ambition, a deep-rooted sense of social responsibility and the backing of trusted partners, Major Housing set out to deliver quality, permanent social housing and provide society’s most vulnerable people with a feeling of security, belonging and pride in the place they live.

A Major Mission

On the face of it, Major Housing’s goal is simple: to provide as many people as possible with access to affordable, high-quality permanent housing. But our mission goes deeper than that.

We believe we have a social responsibility towards our tenants, the communities they come from and the world we all live in.

From Start To Finish

Whereas most social housing organisations inherit a building and move tenants straight in, we control the majority of our ecosystem from beginning to end. This means we can ensure every step of the Major Housing journey stems from the same core values.

From identifying suitable sites and sourcing local construction materials and resources, to designing innovative buildings according to the needs of future tenants and taking care of them once they’ve moved in.

But this is a big mission to undertake alone. Which is why our vision for the future involves more than just us. We want to encourage the industry to embrace partnership and collaboration to deliver more high-quality, affordable social housing together.
